As expected, the MP & Silva agency has retained the international media rights to Italy’s Serie A for the next three seasons.
MP & Silva, the league’s international rights holder since 2004, will continue distributing Serie A action on a global basis until 2018, after winning a tender launched by Lega Serie A.
Reports emerged last week that three bids were being considered by the league, with IMG and B4 Capital reportedly in the running alongside MP & Silva. While financial terms have not been officially released, it is thought that MP & Silva entered a bid of €185 million per season, versus €140 million from IMG and €135 million from B4 Capital.
The agreement includes audiovisual rights in all countries outside Italy, including the rights to live broadcast all Serie A matches, pre and post-match programming, a magazine show, highlights and interviews.
“With our international reach and commercial strength we will continue to give Lega Serie A an increasing visibility,” said Riccardo Silva, a founding partner of MP & Silva.
“Sports have the potential to bring crowds together and we are happy to be part of the growth of one of the best-known leagues in the world.”
MP & Silva currently distributes media rights for more than 60 international sports properties, including the English Premier League, France’s Ligue 1 and the NBA.
Its latest acquisition was made through an agreement with Infront Sports & Media, the Switzerland-based agency which guaranteed Serie A minimum revenue of €5.94 billion when the two parties signed their six-year global media rights deal in May.
