Champions League cash on the rise again
Uefa has secured more Champions League broadcast income after agreeing the sale of television rights in Poland. Polsat and ITI will share the rights to European club soccer's most prestigious tournament from this summer until 2012.
Polsat will show the first choice live match each gameweek on free to air television, as well as a Wednesday night highlights programme and a Uefa Champions League weekly magazine. ITI, meanwhile, will show every other game either live or delayed on its N Sport branded channels. Both companies will exploit the rights on mobile and internet platforms.
The deal brings to an end Uefa's agreement with TVP, which will finish when Manchester United take on Spanish champions Barcelona in the final of the 2008/09 competition on Wednesday night.
"Uefa is very pleased to to confirm these new deals in Poland which guarantee an excellent combination of free-to-air and pay exposure for the Uefa Champions League over the next three seasons with proven broadcasters," said a statement from Uefa. "A the same time, Uefa wishes to thank TVP which has been a valued partner of Uefa and this competition in Poland during recent seasons."
