CBC picks up rugby sevens rights in Canada

CBC/Radio-Canada has picked up the Canadian broadcast rights to 2017/18 World Rugby Sevens Series, an annual series of international rugby union seven-a-side tournaments run by World Rugby.

The Canadian public radio and television broadcaster will stream all action from the men’s and women’s events on its online platform and its CBC Sports app.

Coverage will also be aired on CBC-TV, including a weekly highlight show.

In addition, CBC acquired the rights to air international quadrennial tournament the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens, which is due to take place in San Francisco.

The Canada men’s national rugby sevens team lost narrowly 19-17 in the bronze medal match of the World Rugby Sevens Series tournament in Cape Town against hosts South Africa on Sunday. Meanwhile, the women’s side finished fourth in the Dubai tournament.
