Castelli back in the pink with Giro d’Italia

Castelli has signed an agreement with RCS Sport to supply the classification jerseys for the next four editions of cycling’s Giro d'Italia. 

From the start of the 2018 edition of the Grand Tour, the sportswear will provide the race organisers with the maglia rosa for the general classification leader, the maglia ciclamino for the sprint classification leader, the maglia azzurra for the King of the Mountains classification leader and the maglia bianca for the best young rider of the Giro.

It will also have a strong roadside brand presence for all three weeks of the multi-stage road race.

The Venetian company was previously the jersey supplier to the Giro throughout the 1980s and the early part of the 1990s. It replaces Italian manufacturer Santini. The last rider to wear a maglia rosa made by Castelli was Spain’s two-time winner Miguel Indurain in 1992.

“It's a real pleasure to announce the return of the prestigious international brand Castelli to the Giro d'Italia family," said Matteo Mursia, RCS Sport's commercial director. "This historic company will once again produce the Giro leader's jerseys after our successful experience together in the 1980s and 90s. 

“We are certain that this will be an important and worthwhile partnership for both companies, for marketing and in terms of return on investment." 

Alongside France’s Tour de France and Spain’s Vuelta a España, the Giro is one of cycling's three annual three-week Grand Tours. It is usually held during late May and early June and is scheduled to start in Jerusalem in 2018, becoming the first Grand Tour to begin outside of Europe.
