Australian Football League (AFL) side Carlton FC have announced a new five-year partnership with Virgin Australia.
The airline will be listed as the Australian rules football club’s co-major partner and official airline until the end of 2022. The company previously served as the Blues’ platinum partner for the past three seasons, and signed as an interim co-major partner earlier this year.
The agreement will see Virgin Australia’s logo retain its place on the front of the team’s away guernseys, as well as all on major branding assets across the club’s AFL programme.
The partnership was launched by Blues captain Marc Murphy, who made an in-flight announcement to passengers on a flight between Melbourne and Sydney, which was streamed live through Carlton FC’s Facebook page using Virgin Australia’s in-flight Wi-Fi.
Mark LoGiudice, president of Carlton FC, said: “We are delighted to have broadened our partnership with Virgin Australia and to be sharing our growth with such a trusted and respected brand like Virgin Australia is incredibly exciting.
“Virgin Australia has been an incredibly loyal partner of the club and their commitment reflects the strong relationship between both organisations. Virgin Australia is joining us at an exciting time for the club and we look forward to providing great opportunities for our members and supporters.”
Rob Sharp, acting chief executive of Virgin Australia, added: “The Carlton Football Club is a powerful and dynamic organisation with a strong corporate community and we are excited about the prospect of two strong brands aligning for a five-year partnership.
“This partnership will continue to drive strong brand exposure for both organisations and we are thrilled to be a major partner of Carlton as we continue to broaden our commitment with both the AFL and its clubs. We know we are joining the Blues at an exciting time for the club as they go from strength to strength both on and off the field and we look forward to the next five years in partnership together.”
The Carlton Blues are 15th in the AFL, and play their final fixture of the 2017 season away to the Sydney Swans on 26th August.
