Burger King replaces McDonald’s as ‘Classic’ sponsor
Burger King has signed a multi-year sponsorship deal, starting in 2011, with the four-team high school boys basketball tournament known as the Classic. Burger King replaces business competitor, McDonald's, which has been the title sponsor of the event since 1983.
"We could not be more pleased with the arrangement we have with Burger King to continue not only a local but a national tradition," said Bill Flanagan, the director of the Classic and athletic director at Catherdral Prep, the school that hosts the tournament. "We are very appreciative to McDonald's for 27 good years of serving this event but are real excited about the commitment Burger King has made to the Classic beginning in 2011."
The tournament field is scheduled to be announced in November.
