American golfer Bubba Watson has signed an agreement with golf ball supplier Volvik for the 2017 season.
The two-time Masters winner will use Volvik’s White Color S4 ball from the start of the upcoming SBS Championship at Kapalua. Watson will wear the company’s logo on his sleeve during tournaments for the duration of the partnership. He previously played with a Titleist Pro V1x.
The financial terms of the initial one-year deal have not been released. Watson, who is famed on the circuit for his flamboyant pink driver, has dubbed his new ball “the blue pearl” due to the flecks of blue on its dimples.
“Right now, I have five dozen pink balls and five dozen of the Blue Pearl,” said Watson. “I’ll probably just rotate. It’s more fun to rotate. White ball one day, pink ball, and then if I get the lime one, rotate that into the rounds each week.”
Elsewhere in golf, financial firm Nomura has announced a three-year sponsorship of Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama.
The Japanese company’s logo will be present on the world number six’s tournament apparel through 2020. The 24-year-old will also lend his image to campaigns for the company and make personal appearances at corporate events.
“I’m humbled by this opportunity to partner with Nomura for the next three years,” said Matsuyama. “I jumped out of Japan with the sheer desire to grow on the international stage and it is encouraging to have Nomura, a company that takes on global challenges for the future of finance, at my side. In 2017, I will continue to do all that I can towards achieving the Grand Slam, something that no Japanese has done before.”
