British Telecom (BT) has been announced as the exclusive technology in sustainability partner of Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR), the British entrant into the 2017 America's Cup.
The two parties are set to collaborate on the '100% Sport' initiative, a global drive to encourage sports fans to help in the battle against climate change by promoting renewable energy.
On the sporting side of things, BT will provide data architecture experts to Land Rover BAR to aid in the team's 'pit lane'-style data analysis systems they are hoping will give them the edge on the water in Bermuda in 2017.
“It’s fantastic to be working with another great British technology brand,” said team skipper Ben Ainslie. “Not only will they help provide technology to help bring the Cup home, they will also help us to take our message of sustainable sport to a much wider audience.”
The news comes after Land Rover BAR finished fourth this weekend in the America's Cup World Series (ACWS) event, also in Bermuda. The result leaves the team third in the overall ACWS standings, behind Emirates Team New Zealand and Oracle Team USA in first and second respectively.
