Top-tier German soccer side Borussia Mönchengladbach have extended their longstanding partnership with Santander until 2022.
The Spanish banking group will continue to be listed as an official partner of the Bundesliga outfit’s first team, in a deal which also sees the company serve as the main sponsor of the club’s academy teams.
Santander will benefit from brand exposure throughout the club’s Borussia Park home ground, and will also provide funding for the construction of Mönchengladbach’s new youth centre.
Financial terms of the renewed agreement were not disclosed. The extension prolongs a partnership which first began in 2001.
Stephan Schippers, managing director of Borussia Mönchengladbach, said: “As one of the largest companies in Mönchengladbach, Santander is an important and close partner for us and with our office building, built in 2015, close to the Borussia Park, is also our direct neighbour.
“From the beginning of our cooperation, Santander has been committed to the promotion of young talent and is still doing it. We are delighted to be able to renew the contract and thank Santander for its support in the construction of the new youth centre.”
Ulrich Leuschner, chairman of the board of management for Santander Consumer Bank AG, added: “Our bank has a convincing focus on social issues. This is reflected in our commitment to education, youth promotion and social affairs, and this is also reflected in our sponsorship at Borussia Mönchengladbach.”
Borussia Mönchengladbach are seventh in the Bundesliga, with 11 points from their opening seven games. They play their next fixture away to Werder Bremen on Sunday.
