BMW keeps name on Munich ATP event

German car manufacturer BMW has extended its title sponsorship of the ATP Tour tennis event at Munich for another three years.

German car manufacturer BMW has extended its title sponsorship of the ATP Tour tennis event at Munich for another three years.

The clay court tournament will continue to be known as the BMW Open until 2013. BMW has been a sponsor of the competition for 23 years.

Karsten Engel, the head of sales for BMW in Germany, said: "Involvement in the community, which we indisputably have, is extremely important, especially in times of great challenges. Therefore, we support top tennis in Bavaria this year and in years to come. Our commitment is an expression of a successful and growing partnership. We are happy to remain title sponsor and have the contract extended until 2013."

Peter Bosch, the chairman of tournament host MTTC Iphitos, added: "BMW is our partner of choice. The sporty, premium brand fits perfectly with Iphitos as a premium tennis club and the tournament as a top sporting event."

The BMW Open is a key event in the calendar for many players preparing for the French Open at Roland Garros. This year's tournament will run from 1st to 9th May.
