Snooker’s commercial arm, World Snooker, has signed a three-year sponsorship renewal with online bookmaker Betway.
The gaming operator will continue to be the title sponsor of the UK Championship up to and including the 2020 event. It first agreed a deal to back the tournament in 2015.
The UK Championship, which is played at the York Barbican, is snooker’s second highest-ranking event after the World Championship and is part of the sport’s Triple Crown, which is completed by the World Championship and the Masters.
“We are delighted to welcome Betway on board for at least another three years, especially as they are such a fantastic team to work with,” said Barry Hearn, chairman of World Snooker. “This year we celebrate 40 years of the UK Championship and remember the iconic moments that this marvellous tournament has produced.
“Now the players are writing a new chapter in the history of this event, and the eyes of the world are watching with a global television audience of over 400 million fans. The exposure for Betway’s brand both in the UK and overseas is exceptional. We look forward to working with them for many years to come.”
The 2017 UK Championship began on 28th November and ends on 10th December. Defending champion and world number one Mark Selby was knocked out of the tournament following a shock 6-3 defeat by world number 66 Scott Donaldson.
