Betfair backing for Britain’s boxers

The British Amateur Boxing Association (BABA) has agreed a sponsorship deal with Betfair.

The online betting exchange will become the official gaming partner of BABA and will support both its men's and women's teams, whose members will appear at promotional events. The partnership is an expansion of the deal which saw Betfair sponsor the GB Amateur Boxing Championships at York Hall in London in November 2011.

Betfair's head of UK brand marketing Andy Lulham said: "There are a number of promising boxers in its ranks who are more than capable of delivering success in what I'm sure will be a standout year for the sport."

BABA executive chairman Derek Mapp added: "Betfair's decision to extend its relationship with GB Boxing is a sign of its confidence in both the GB Boxing team and the health of the amateur sport in this country where it is delivering success at both the grassroots and the elite level."

Five British men's boxers have already qualified for London 2012, with more given an opportunity to claim a place at this month's European qualifying event in Trabzon, Turkey this week.

Britain's women will have the chance to qualify at May's AIBA World Championships in the Chinese port city of Qinhuangdao.
