French broadcasters renew deals for European rugby tournaments.

BeIN Sports and France Télévisions extend EPCR rights to 2022

BeIN Sports and France Télévisions have both signed extended deals with European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) for the rights to show the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup.

Pay-TV service BeIN will continue to show all matches from both of the EPCR's continental rugby union tournaments between 2018 and 2022. The renewal is a boost for the Qatar-based broadcaster in France, after it lost the rights to soccer's Uefa Champions League and Europa League to SFR.

France Télévisions, meanwhile, will continue to show one game per matchday from each competition on its free-to-air channels. France 2 will show the top-tier Champions Cup, with France 4 airing the second-tier Challenge Cup.

There remains the posibility for France Télévisions to sub-license further matches from BeIN, something which would be encouraged by the EPCR as it seeks to increase the exposure of its tournaments across Europe.

The 2017 Challenge Cup was won earlier this month by French side Stade Français, while the Champions Cup was won for the second consecutive season by English outfit Saracens.
