Yingli Solar has become the first Chinese sponsor of German Bundesliga soccer club FC Bayern Munich.

The firm, which was also a sponsor of the 2010 Fifa World Cup, will be a partner of the four-time European champions until the end of June 2014. The club will use the deal to help create green initiatives, including the implementation of solar technology at their Allianz Arena home, and to reach out to their fanbase in China, where there are seven Bayern Munich supporters' clubs. According to reports in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the deal is worth an annual single-digit million euro fee, but financial terms were not released.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, the president of Bayern Munich, said: "Bayern Munich is the first club in Germany that has a premium partner from China. That makes us proud. We have looked for This is the partnership that we were looking for. I can also imagine a game for our team in China."

Bayern Munich enjoyed a highly successful year in 2009/10, winning a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double and reaching the final of the Uefa Champions League. This season, however, has proved frustrating, with the team currently fourth in the Bundesliga table having slipped 14 points behind runaway leaders Borussia Dortmund.
