Baku's bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games has received a boost with support from three of Azerbaijan's largest companies.

SOCAR, the state oil company, Azerbaijan Airlines and telco Azercell have all signed up to sponsor the bid ahead of the International Olympic Committee's decision on which, if any, of the five bids to host the Games will be elminated next week.
Baku has committed to an US$8 million for the applicant stage, which will rise to US$44 million should it make it to the candidate phase. The IOC Executove Board will consider its bid, along with those of Doha, Tokyo, Madrid and Istanbul, in at its meeting in Quebec.
Konul Nurullayeva, chief executive of the Baku 2020 team, said: “Our Application File poll showed 95 per cent support from the population of Azerbaijan – and more recently half a million Azerbaijanis signed a petition in support of the Baku 2020 Bid. The Bid also enjoys the complete support of all levels of government, as well as across all political parties.
"And now we also have the confirmed backing of the commercial sector of the country."
