Dunlop has been announced as the new official ball partner for the Australian Open.
The five-year partnership – which starts in 2019 – will also see the sports manufacturer become the main ball provider for all levels of Australian tennis, with the deal helping to support grassroots programs in the country.
It brings to an end the current deal with Wilson, which also provides balls for the US Open.
Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley said: “Our aim is to provide the players with the best possible playing environment and we believe they will be very happy with the quality, standard and consistency of play of the new AO Dunlop ball in a wide variety of conditions.
“Many of our current and former players have also put the new ball through its paces, both in Australia and around the world, and this process will be ongoing to ensure there’s consistency of play in a variety of conditions.”
Head of tennis for SRI Kiyoshi Ikawa added: “The new partnership with the Australian Open and Tennis Australia represents a landmark moment for Dunlop. Partnering with a Grand Slam gives us an opportunity to reach new audiences and reaffirms the dedication we have to producing tennis products of the highest standards.”
The 2019 Australian Open begins on 14th January, with Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic both looking to win a record seventh men’s title in Melbourne.
