Audi has signed an agreement to sponsor a number of winter sports in China, following Beijing’s successful bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
According to Yutang Sports, the German carmaker will back China’s figure skating, short track skating, snowboard halfpipe, alpine skiing, freestyle skiing aerials teams as part of the new deal with the China Winter Sports Administration.
Audi will provide financial support to the teams as well as offering Chinese athletes the chance to test and train at the company’s wind tunnels in Germany. It will also back three Chinese skiing resorts at Jilin Beidahu, Zhangjiakou Yunding and Changbai Mountain Wanda, and sponsor the International Ski Federation’s (FIS) World Snow Day activities in the country.
Audi is already a major backer of winter sport, supporting the annual FIS World Cup, the German Ski Association, and a host of other national teams.
Beijing was awarded the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games last Friday after beating off competition from Almaty, Kazakhstan.
