Aspall has agreed a deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC) to become the official cider partner for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, the global one-day international (ODI) tournament being held in England and Wales from 1st to 18th June.
Aspall, which originates in the UK, will have cider pourage rights at the competition’s three host venues - Edgbaston in Birmingham, The Oval in London and the SSE Swalec Stadium Cardiff - and in Birmingham’s Fan Park.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will feature the eight-ranked sides on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings as of 30th September 2015. It will be the eighth edition of the tournament and the third to be played in the UK.
The financial terms of the short-term agreement have not been released.
“On behalf of the ICC, I welcome Aspall as an official cider partner for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017,” said Campbell Jamieson, the ICC’s general manager. “Aspall is a premium brand in the United Kingdom and its decision to partner with the ICC indicates the popularity of 50-over cricket and also reflects how attractive major global events such as the ICC Champions Trophy are to brands.
Des Smith, chief executive at Aspall, added: “All of us here at Aspall are thrilled to be a new partner of this prestigious event. The ICC attracts the best teams and cricketers in the world. The ICC has a fantastic reputation and high standards and values that we feel align so well with Aspall.”
The 1st June opening fixture of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will be played between hosts England and Bangladesh at the Oval, which will also stage the final.
