Umbro has announced a new multi-year partnership with United States women’s national soccer team (USWNT) goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris.
The deal sees the 31-year-old become the UK-based sportswear manufacturer’s first ever female brand ambassador.
The Orlando Pride shot stopper, who won the Fifa Women’s World Cup with the USWNT in 2015, will be the face of the company’s new unisex apparel line, which was launched in Harris’s hometown of Cocoa Beach, Florida to celebrate the new partnership.
Commenting on the endorsement deal, Harris said: “My first memory of Umbro was when I refused to take off my orange and purple Umbro checkerboard shorts for church at five-years-old. I won that battle, and that drive to express myself and stay true to myself, even as a kid, is why I’m so excited about my partnership with Umbro.
“The brand is the original, and they understand the way the culture of football and the product they create inspires passion, commitment and courage on and off the field.”
Jamie Cygielman, chief marketing officer and executive vice president of Iconix Brand Group, the company which owns Umbro, added: “We identified Ashlyn as our brand ambassador as she epitomises the Umbro spirit, with skills and unrivalled confidence both on and off the field. As a star of the USWNT and the Orlando Pride, Ashlyn is a true fan-favourite.”
