Top-tier Italian soccer side AS Roma have announced a deal with Waze.
The GPS navigation application will serve as the Serie A outfit’s official traffic partner.
Waze will be used to optimise mobility and access to Roma’s Stadio Olimpico home ground, suggesting the quickest routes, highlighting problems on roads and offering fuel prices.
To celebrate the tie-up, Roma soccer players Stephan El Shaarawy, Alessandro Florenzi, Radja Nainggolan and Juan Jesus have lent their voice to the app, where they will suggest entrances to the Stadio Olimpico, and inform users about the locations of Roma merchandise stores.
Waze has also developed a widget for mobile and desktop that fully integrates the app with the club’s official social media platforms to allow fans to receive clear navigation information relating specifically to the team.
Roma’s agreement with Waze follows a series of deals with transport-optimising services by the club, including partnerships with German car rental Car2go, which serves as the official mobility sharing partner of the team, transit app Moovit, which allows users to programme travel itineraries by displaying transport links in real time relative to location, and scooter-sharing firm Zig Zag.
French soccer side Lille OSC partnered with Waze in February.
“Waze is progressively turning into a genuine transportation company,” said Dario Mancini, country manager, Italy, at Waze. “The decision to move closer to the world of sport shows how the app is so much more than a navigation tool.
“Our partnership with AS Roma is evidence of how the club and Waze are working hard to support Giallorossi fans, helping them to experience memorable and enjoyable times not only at the stadium, but also every day in a city that we want to make more liveable and less congested.”
