Top-flight Italian soccer side AS Roma have announced a new one-year partnership with the Egyptian Tourist Organisation in Italy, which will see Egypt become the Serie A outfit’s official tourism partner until the end of the 2017/18 season.
The organisation will benefit from advertising on pitchside LED bands at the team’s Stadio Olimpico home ground, while Roma will also publicise the partnership across their digital and social media platforms.
The two parties will launch a number of shared initiatives involving the general public and the media, which will be geared towards supporting and promoting the country. The campaigns will be headed by Stephan El Sha'arawy, Roma’s 24-year-old Italian forward whose father is Egyptian.
“We’re delighted to be teaming up with one of the biggest and most successful football clubs in Italy,” said Emad Fathy Abdalla, director of the Egyptian Tourist Organisation. “The partnership will allow Italian visitors who choose Egypt as a holiday destination to enjoy and get to know the country in more detail as they discover its historical, artistic and natural wonders.
“The decision to partner with the Giallorossi is linked to the significance of Rome as a crucial location in the flow of tourists towards Egypt, with Italian tour operators and Egyptian airlines recently deciding to increase the number of flights from Fiumicino airport to Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh.
“The partnership is made all the stronger by presence in the squad of Stephan El Shaarawy, an Italian winger of Egyptian origins, and by the huge interest that AS Roma generates in Egypt, where there is an ever-increasing number of Giallorossi fans.”
Roma are fifth in Serie A following their second loss of the season at home to league leaders Napoli on Saturday. They travel to play English champions Chelsea in the Uefa Champions League on Wednesday before taking on Torino on Sunday.
