The Laver Cup, the men’s tennis tournament between a European and World team, has announced a deal with Amazon Prime Video.

As part of the agreement, Prime Video will provide coverage of all Laver Cup matches live and on-demand to Prime subscribers in more than 200 countries. The Laver Cup chose to retain over-the-top (OTT) rights in all of its broadcast television deals for the tournament.

As a result, content from the competition will be accessible on the Prime Video app for televisions, consoles, set-top boxes and connected devices, including Amazon Fire TV.

Prime Video is also producing a special additional mini-series, featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the Laver Cup and the players on both teams.

Tony Godsick, chairman of the Laver Cup, said: “The Laver Cup and Amazon Prime Video are a natural fit for each other.

“Both have a reputation for being innovative, world-class and high-quality global brands. For us to partner with a company that is on the forefront of both media and commerce is so exciting. We look forward to working with Amazon to deliver the Laver Cup to key markets and connect with a broader global audience.”

Greg Hart, vice president of Prime Video added: “Prime members are passionate sports fans. “We are happy to add the Laver Cup to a broad selection of compelling, live and on-demand sports content for our global customers.”

The second edition of the competition takes place from 21st to 23rd September in Chicago. Team Europe, who won last year’s inaugural tournament, are captained by Bjorn Borg and will feature both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic. Team World are captained by John McEnroe, with Juan Martin del Potro the top-ranked non-European player announced so far.

The acquisition of the Laver Cup rights mark Amazon's latest move into tennis, following a similar deal with the ATP Tour and a UK-wide deal for the rights to the US Open.
