Allianz has renewed its global partnership with the World Para Athletics division of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) until 2018, with a further option to extend the deal through to 2020.
The global insurance group is currently sponsoring the World Para Athletics Championships London 2017, and the new agreement will see the company support the 2018 European Para Athletics Championships in Berlin, Germany.
The extension marks the continuation of a partnership which first began in 2014. In addition to its global sponsorship, Allianz also gives financial backing to 14 National Paralympic Committees.
Sir Philip Craven, president of the IPC, said: “We are thrilled and excited that one of the Paralympic movement’s most trusted and supportive partners have extended its support of World Para Athletics until at least 2018. It is no coincidence that since Allianz became a global partner of World Para Athletics, the sport has enjoyed tremendous growth in all areas.
“Allianz’s support enables us to not only increase the resources we can dedicate to the sport, but it provides us with a fantastic platform to grow interest and awareness of Para athletics around the world. We look forward to continuing our excellent work with Allianz in the coming years.”
Jean-Marc Pailhol, head of group market management and distribution at Allianz SE, added: “Allianz’s partnership with World Para Athletics is one component of many to creating a more equitable society with equal opportunities for everyone. I truly believe that our engagement in Para sport is making a difference to this world, fostering public awareness and generating greater interest in the topic of disability and inclusion.”
The ongoing World Para Athletics Championships in London continues this week, and is scheduled to conclude on 23rd July.
