Dutch soccer giants Ajax have renewed their partnership with Ziggo until June 2020.
The new deal, which extends the pre-existing agreement by a further season, will see the telecommunications provider continue as the main sponsor of the Eredivisie outfit.
Ziggo’s logo will remain on the front of Ajax’s first and reserve team shirts, as well as on their training kits.
In addition, the Dutch company will retain its role as the main sponsor of the Amsterdam-based club’s esports team, Ajax eSports.
Ziggo first partnered with Ajax in November 2014, and recently acquired the broadcast rights in the Netherlands to European soccer’s premier club competition, the Uefa Champions League.
“This is a successful partnership for both parties,” said Edwin van der Sar, general manager of Ajax. “It’s no secret that Ajax has had a difficult first half of this season, and the fact that in this phase, such an important partner expresses its trust in us and extends our agreement feels like additional support.
“And so much is happening in the sector in which VodafoneZiggo, Ziggo’s parent company, operates. From that perspective, this extension is a nice gesture.”
Marcel de Groot, director of the consumer market of VodafoneZiggo, added: "With this interim extension we want to give the signal that we are very happy with this collaboration, which we would like to continue for at least the next two and a half years."
Ajax are second in the Eredivisie, five points behind PSV Eindhoven. They won 3-1 at home to Willem II on Christmas Eve, and will host fifth-placed Feyenoord on 21st January.
