Rebecca Adlington, the teenage British swimmer who won two gold medals at the Beijing Olympic Games, will join Michael Phelps as an ambassador for Speedo after agreeing a sponsorship deal with the swimwear brand.

Adlington trains in Nottingham, where the company is based, and won her Olympic medals wearing a Speedo costume. She grew up just a few miles from the area.

The deal will last until the London Olympic Games in 2012. The Daily Telegraph newspaper described it as, 'the perfect partnership, bringing together the two great British success stories in the pool.'

"For me, 2008 was filled with some unbelievable achievements," said Adlington. "I am thrilled to be starting this new year with Speedo, one of the most iconic sports brands in the world."

Dave Robinson, Speedo President, said: "Rebecca Adlington has already established herself as an outstanding swimmer and has a bright future ahead of her. She is a great ambassador for both Speedo and the sport of swimming and we look forward to working with her."
