Tom Hicks Jr resigns from Liverpool FC board
Tom Hicks Jr has resigned as a director of Liverpool FC after sending an insulting email to a Liverpool fan who had questioned the club's finances.
Hicks, whose father co-owns Liverpool with felllow American businessman George Gillett, allegedly responded: "B*** me f*** face. Go to Hell. I'm sick of you," to a fan's email. He followed up with another email apologising for his reaction, but has now resigned.
A club statement read: "Liverpool Football Club today announce that Thomas Hicks Jr has resigned as a director of both the club and its parent company Kop Holdings.
"Three new directors have been elected to the boards of both companies. These are Philip Nash, LFC chief financial officer; Ian Ayre, LFC commercial director; and Casey Coffman, executive vice president of Hicks Holdings."
The chairman of supporters group Spirit of Shankly, Paul Rice, hhad previously told the Liverpool Echo: "It is totally indefensible for a director of the club to speak to a fan in that manner. The comment is unbecoming of a director of Liverpool FC."
