Michael Wiederer has been named as the new president of the European Handball Federation (EHF).
The Austrian was the sole candidate standing for the presidency at the 13th EHF Congress in St Wolfgang, Austria. He succeeds Frenchman Jean Brihult, who served a single term of four years.
None of the EHF's member associations had insisted on a secret election, so Wiederer was hand-chosen as the governing body's fourth president by members of its board.
Wiederer has served for nearly 25 years, since 1992, as the organisation's secretary general.
