Discovery Communications has announced Alex Kaplan as the new executive vice president of commercial for the Discovery-owned online platform, Eurosport Digital.
The American will be responsible for all customer acquisition and retention and will work in conjunction with Ralph Rivera, managing director of Eurosport Digital. The pair will report to Paul Guyardo, Discovery’s chief commercial officer.
Kaplan joins Discovery from the National Basketball Association (NBA), where he spent a year as the senior vice president of global media distribution. Prior to the NBA he spent ten years at digital television entertainment service DirectTV, where he was the senior vice president of marketing.
“I am honoured to join the world class Discovery and Eurosport team and to work with Paul again,” said Kaplan. “Eurosport Digital has enormous potential and I can’t wait to get started”
Guyardo, added: “I had the pleasure of working with Alex for 10 years at DirecTV so I know first-hand that there’s nobody better to accelerate the revenue and subscriber growth of Eurosport Digital.”
