Chinese Figure Skating Association names Shen Xue as president

China’s State General Administration of Sports, which manages sport in the country, has established the Chinese Figure Skating Association (CFSA) and appointed Shen Xue as its new president.

The Chinese Olympic champion skater will lead the new organisation, which will be based in Beijing.

The Chinese Skating Association (CSA) previously managed figure skating in China, and will continue to govern short and long-track speed skating.

Shen Xue was the 2010 Winter Olympic Games champion alongside her partner and husband Zhao Hongbo in pair skating, when they became the first Chinese skaters to win a gold medal in the sport, and won bronze medals in the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympic Games. She is also a three-time world champion.

The 39-year-old announced her retirement from competitive skating in 2010, with plans to promote the figure skating sport and begin coaching.
