James Thomas appointed by British Gymnastics

British Gymnastics has appointed James Thomas as its new performance director.

Thomas will take up his new post from February 2017. He has previously held roles as performance director for Welsh Boxing and head of operations at Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby. Most recently, he was the senior performance pathway manager at British Judo.

"Following British Gymnastics’ history-making performances at the 2016 Olympic Games, there is a real sense of excitement and anticipation to build upon this success in Tokyo,” said Thomas. “Having already met some of the team at British Gymnastics, I feel the real sense of passion within the World Class Performance Programme and a drive to be the very best. I feel privileged to join the team and I look forward to working with the coaches and athletes and their parents and support team."

Martin Reddin, executive director of sport at British Gymnastics, added: "James demonstrated to the interview panel and our key performance staff that not only does he have the knowledge, skill and experience to be an effective performance director he also has the right personality and beliefs to fit into the culture of the British Gymnastics high performance team."
