IMG has appointed Mark Shapiro to the role of chief content officer.
Shapiro, who joins the agency from his role as executive producer at Dick Clark Productions, returns to the world of sport nine years after leaving ESPN, where he had been responsible for the development, acquisition and scheduling of all ESPN programming.
From ESPN, Shapiro joined Six Flags Entertainment Corporation, serving as the president and chief executive of the global theme park operator before joining Dick Clark Productions.
Shapiro is the latest of a flurry of hires at IMG, which was bought by Hollywood agency WME in December. He joins newly-installed president of business affairs Karen Brodkin, executive vice president of marketing and brand solutions Doug Scott and chief financial officer Chris Liddell.
Shapiro, who has a namesake in the sports industry in the president of the Cleveland Indians Major League Baseball team, is a board director of Live Nation Entertainment, Frontier Communications and Papa John's International.
“I’m excited to join IMG at such a unique moment,” said Shapiro. “No other company has access to such a diverse, innovative portfolio of content creators and distributors, and I look forward to helping create and champion our partners’ stories and ideas.”
