Major League Soccer (MLS) club Atlanta United have installed Catie Griggs as their new vice president of business operations.
Griggs joins the team from Futures Sport & Entertainment, the Interpublic Group-owned media and sponsorships analytics consultancy, where she oversaw the launch of the company’s Americas operations in 2015.
At United, who are currently in the midst of their maiden MLS campaign, Griggs will lead marketing, strategy and operations for the team, and will report to club president Darren Eales.
“Catie is an excellent addition to Atlanta United’s leadership team,” said Eales. “She brings a diverse set of skills that will help the club continue to build on an incredible start, strengthen existing partnerships and elevate fan engagement.
“Most importantly, we see Catie as a perfect fit for our team’s entrepreneurial culture and her leadership qualities and values-orientation as great assets to the growth of our team and associates.”
Griggs, who spent five years at Turner Broadcasting in various roles before joining Futures, added: “Atlanta is my home and I've experienced the impact Atlanta United already has made on the city firsthand.
“I couldn't be more excited to have the opportunity to work with Darren and the team to help build upon the unprecedented success the club has experienced in its inaugural season.”
Griggs’ appointment comes as United prepare to move into their new home, the ultra high-tech Mercedes-Benz Stadium, on 10th September, when they are due to host FC Dallas.
She replaces Ann Rodriguez, who took up a position as senior vice president of league operations at the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) earlier this month.
