Just 20 years old, Max Verstappen has started 72 Formula One Grand Prix races. It is a ludicrous record for one so young and makes it easy to forget that Michael Schumacher had won two world titles even before Verstappen had been born. With time very much on his side, the Dutchman is viewed as the man who would be king. Four wins in three years since moving to Red Bull have further enhanced the reputation of a competitor whose penchant for the dramatic overtake has turned him into one of the sport’s most thrilling – if erratic – spectacles.

A Twitter following of 840,000, together with a further 1.6 million on Instagram only further highlight the interest in a future world champion of tremendous promise. With a spare seat expected to open up at one of Mercedes or Ferrari before too long, the wonderkid is sure to be in high demand.

At 18 years and 228 days, he is the sport’s youngest ever race winner.
