A knee injury scuppered Mallory Pugh’s second professional season with the Washington Spirit but she nonetheless remains on the up in terms of her profile and her absence has been keenly felt by the US women’s national team.
On the field she has broken numerous records but Pugh notched another milestone with her off-field efforts earlier this year when she became the youngest woman ever on the Gatorade roster. Jeff Kearney, Gatorade’s global head of sports marketing, said on enlisting Pugh: “We pride ourselves on identifying up-and-coming athletes, male and female, who are championship calibre, have exemplary character, and who believe in fuelling for performance. Mallory fits that mould.”
