Uefa has moved a step further towards agreeing Euro 2012 broadcast rights across the whole of Europe, adding Sweden to an already extensive list of countries in which partnerships have been agreed.
Uefa has already signed partnerships with the EBU, covering 36 European countries, and with broadcasters in the host countries, Poland and Ukraine. TV4 and SVT will screen the competition, European soccer's most prestigious, free to air in Sweden. The country's best-ever performance in the competition came in 1992, when, as hosts, the team reached the semi-final.
Alongside the TV4 and SVT coverage, all 31 matches will be broadcast live on a dedicated channel of pay-TV broadcaster Canal Digital.
"Uefa is delighted to welcome TV4 and SVT as members of the exclusive group of Uefa Euro 2012 official broadcasters. Both TV4 and SVT are longstanding partners of Uefa as well as leading broadcasters in Sweden," said Uefa general secretary David Taylor.
"The agreement will provide in-depth coverage of the competition and the inclusion of Canal Digital will further complement the wide offer of the free-to-air broadcasters with a dedicated Uefa Euro 2012 channel," he added. "It is great news for football fans in Sweden as this extensive coverage will provide them with a unique viewing experience."
