Contract summary

Annualised value: US$2.5 million
Overall value: US$17.5 million

Hyundai-Kia will continue its sponsorship of Uefa until 2017, becoming the second major sponsor to renew with European soccer's governing body in the past few days.

The agreement means that Hyundai-Kia will be the official automotive partner of all events in Uefa's Eurotop programme. This includes the flagship Uefa Euro 2012 and Uefa Euro 2016 tournaments, for which Hyundai-Kia will also become the exclusive vehicle supplier, and all editions of the Uefa European Under-21 Championship, the Uefa European Women's Championship and the Uefa European Futsal Championship competitions between now and 2017. The deal includes integrated broadcast sponsorship rights, while Hyundai-Kia is set to activate various promotional and marketing initiatives.

Uefa recently signed a similar deal with soft-drinks brand Coca-Cola, which was reportedly worth at least US$2.5 million a year. David Taylor, chief executive of Uefa Events SA, expressed his delight at the agreement, adding: "We look forward to taking an already successful partnership, which dates back to Uefa Euro 2000, to new levels."

Hyundai Motor Company chairman Mong Koo-Chung said: "Hyundai's partnership with Uefa over the past ten years, which includes Kia since Uefa Euro 2008, has provided Hyundai-Kia with the perfect platform for connecting with our European customers to raise both Hyundai and Kia's profiles in Europe, the home of football. We're delighted to be extending our partnership to work and grow together with Uefa and reach our common marketing objectives."
