Tottenham Hotspur make investment in Indian soccer

Tottenham Hotspur, the English Premier League club, will sponsor the Indian team at the Homeless World Cup in Milan this month after partnering with the Krida Vikas Sanstha (Sport For The Homeless) Slum Soccer Programme.

Spurs will provide financial support as well as coaching advice, kit and signed memorabilia for auction. In addition, the club will encourage its own sponsors and partners to work with KVSN.

The deal is not the first time this year that the Premier League has taken notice of India; Manchester United opened the first ever Manchester United Restaurant and Bar in India in July.

"This is fantastic news for us," said Vijay Barse, founder of KVSN, which runs soccer programmes to educate the most disadvantaged members of society. "Tottenham Hotspur matches are broadcast in over two hundred countries and their global profile will help us to reach out to the world, show what we are doing, and gather more support, which in turn will help us to help more people. The association with Tottenham Hotspur will also give us access to their sporting and commercial expertise, and bring inspiration not just to our World Cup team but to all those in India who are finding hope for the future through football."

Tottenham Hotspur executive director Paul Barber added: "We view this association between Tottenham Hotspur and KVSN very much as an opportunity to develop a long-term relationship that, through Slum Soccer and related programmes, will benefit some of the poorest people in India. Tottenham Hotspur is one of the world's leading football clubs - by adding our weight to the KVSN projects we hope that we can contribute substantially to raising their visibility worldwide and encourage others to give their support."
