The Seattle Seahawks, Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns have become the latest NFL teams to sign deals with their state lotteries.
The league has authorised clubs to strike partnerships with state lotteries in an effort to generate more revenue. The decision was made at the same time as it was decided that teams would be allowed to offer sponsorship of their training uniform.
The best estimates indicate that the lottery deals, which will see scratchcards branded with the logo of the team in question, could be worth as much as US$1 million if sales are successful.
Prizes for the Seahawk's deal with Washington's lottery are typical of the potential winnings for players - US$50,000 cash, as well as tickets to the Super Bowl and Pro Bowl, held in Miami at the start of next year, travel from Seattle to Miami for the events, and accommodation in Miami for the week between the two games in a package valued at US$12,000.
