Sport1 captures Premier League rights in Netherlands
Contract summary
Length of contract: 3 yearsAnnualised value: US$45 million
Overall value: US$135 million
Dutch channel Sport1 has renewed its exclusive broadcast rights to the English Premier League for another three seasons, with an agreement adding once again to the league's coffers.
The multi-million dollar deal represents another large financial boost for the Premier League, and particularly its top clubs. Last year, Manchester United and Liverpool topped the list of earnings from the league's television revenues, with the Premier League champions collecting UK£51.5 million. Liverpool also broke the UK£50 million mark, albeit narrowly, collecting UK£50.1 million.
The 20 Premier League clubs collected a total of UK£790 million, with UK£70 million of parachute payments made to clubs relegated into the Championship and a further UK£136 million distributed throughout the game. Those amounts will increase again from next season as the next period of rights begins - particularly given the large increase in international rights prices.
Sport1's rights include broadcasting full matches live or highlights on TV, the internet and mobile phones.
