Overall value: US$10 million
UFA Sports has signed a major marketing deal with the Slovak Football Association and Corgon Liga, the country's top soccer league, in the month that the country qualified for the Fifa World Cup for the first time. Contractual terms were not disclosed, but the partnership is expected to continue for anything up to a decade, and thought to be worth a seven-figure annual sum.
UFA Sports will establish a subsidiary, UFA Sports Slovakia, from November 1, 2009 in Bratislava. The company will be the service provider for the Slovak national football teams and the Slovak Cup for all marketing issues involving media and advertising rights. The contract with Corgon Liga, meanwhile, will cover national and international media rights and see UFA market a package of advertising rights which include the use of the league name.
"We are convinced that we have found the perfect partner in UFA Sports, and we look forward to working with them," said František Laurinec, president of the SFA. "Our national team just made the qualifying rounds for the World Cup in South Africa for the first time in the history of Slovak football. This is the ideal basis for joining forces with UFA Sports."
Arndt Jaworski, who will head UFA Sports Slovakia, added: "Our goal is to have a lasting impact by increasing the attractiveness of Slovak football as a communication platform for businesses and TV channels. I am convinced that our experience and expertise can greatly improve the revenue situation for the SFA and the league. I welcome this new challenge."
