The Scottish Cup will be known as the Active Nation Scottish Cup this season, after the Scottish government agreed to sponsor the competition for a second year.
The government and former Celtic director Willie Haughey will pay US$1.6 million to name the competition, which has been won by one of the Old Firm - Glasgow giants Rangers and Celtic - in ten out of the last 11 seasons. That dominance, and the financial woes that have led the competition to seek government backing, are the reasons the two clubs could be leaving Scottish soccer and competing in the English Premier League if they receive an invitation in November.

"We are delighted that our partnership with the Scottish Government and Willie Haughey is continuing for another year," said SFA chief executive Gordon Smith. "I really do believe that by working together, we can make significant and lasting changes to our national game and our country.
"We all want our children to be fitter, healthier and happier. This year's Active Nation Scottish Cup will not just be a fantastic competition, it will be also be a part of the campaign to change lives and to make our country a better place."
Last year the competition was named the Homecoming Scottish Cup in a bid to attract tourists to Scotland. This year's name is part of the Scottish Government's campaign to encourage Scots to lead healthier lives.
