Telecommunications operator Orange will sponsor the CECAFA (Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations) Senior Challenge Cup later this year.
The company will spend US$175,000 to back the event, the oldest soccer competition in Africa. Tanzania, Sudan, Zanzibar, Somalia, Burundi, Rwanda, Djibouti, Zambia, hosts Kenya and defending champions Uganda will compete for the trophy, with Libya a potential late addition.
"I can now proceed with the tournament arrangements with confidence and on this note I can confidently announce that we shall be announcing the fixtures next week,"said Cecafa general secretary Nicholas Musonye.
The competition adds to Orange's domination of soccer sponsorships in the country through its multi-million dollar deal with governing body CAF, which sees it back the African Nations Cup, the African Champions League, the African Confederations Cup, the Super Cup, the African Nations Championship and the African Youth Championship for the next eight years.
