New York Jets banking on lucky lottery deal
Contract summary
Length of contract: 1 yearAnnualised value: US$1 million
Overall value: US$1 million
The New York Jets have become the latest NFL franchise to sign a potentially lucrative deal with the state lottery.
The league has authorised clubs to strike partnerships with state lotteries in an effort to generate more revenue. The decision was made at the same time as it was decided that teams would be allowed to offer sponsorship of their training uniform - another initiative the Jets have been quick to take advantage of.
The best estimates indicate that the lottery deals, which will see scratchcards branded with the log of the team in question, could be worth as much as US$1 million. The Jets local rivals, the New York Giants, are in discussions about a similar deal with state lotteries in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
The two teams are also seeking a naming-rights sponsor for their new shared stadium, which opens next year.
