New partnerships for Williams F1 team
The Williams Formula One team will carry two new on-car logos for the rest of the 2009 season.
The team, which is sponsored by Angolan company Ridge Solutions, will carry the logo for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, to be held in Angola in January. The tournament's COCAN2010 logo will appear on the car's rear wing.
"An important event for Africa and Angola, Williams is proud to be able to support and promote Angola's COCAN2010 football tournament by running the campaign's branding on the team's race cars for the rest of the season," said Williams F1 chief executive Adam Parr.
The agreement, which is not believed to see any cash changing hands, comes as Williams launches its first not-for-profit Williams Foundation in Angola, which will seek to make contributions in education, energy efficiency and road safety in the country.
To that effect, the Williams Foundation will seek to establish partnerships with international companies, NGOs and government agencies worldwide. It has already partnered with Fundo LWINI, an Angolan charity, whose logo will also appear on the car.
Speaking on the team website about the Williams Foundation, Parr added: "We are delighted to be establishing the Williams Foundation in Angola in partnership with Ridge Solutions. Angola is a wonderful country which has a strong programme of social and economic development following many difficult years. Road safety and education are important challenges for the people of Angola and we are pleased to be able to provide assistance in these areas. Motorsports offer opportunities for the country to develop both on the sporting front and economically and Williams are proud to be a part of the endeavour."
