The NBA has signed another deal to bring coverage of the Playoffs to a European audience.

Eurosport will feature a daily round-up package on its website which will be available in France Italy, Spain, Germany and the UK, where viewers will also be able to watch the Playoffs on television, after broadcaster Setanta agreed a deal to screen matches. Figures were not released, but short-term online highlights packages of this sort usually fetch around US$50,000, with the value instead coming from the accompanying advertising for the NBA's own online broadcast packages.

"As we expand our digital distribution in Europe, we continue to find new ways to bring basketball fans closer to the passion and excitement of the NBA. Teaming up with a major multimedia company like Eurosport allows NBA programming to reach more fans in key European markets," said Attila Gazdag, NBA senior vice president of global media distribution.

While the cash value of the deal is limited, the NBA is hoping to gain exposure for its regular-season products. During the rest of the Playoffs, Eurosport will promote NBA League Pass Broadband, which provides subscribers access to more than 40 NBA regular season games online each week, both live and on-demand. League Pass Broadband is available in 100 countries worldwide.

"The NBA deal demonstrates Eurosport's commitment to offering Europe-based fans some of the most exciting team sports on the Internet. With the NBA gaining popularity in Europe each year, Eurosport's online basketball content is guaranteed to connect people to their sporting entertainment passions," says Arnaud Maillard, new media director of Eurosport.
