Molten, the manufacturer of sports balls and equipment, has been appointed as the official ball supplier to the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games.

The four year deal starts in February 2010 and will run until December 2013. Under the terms of the agreement Molten will supply London Youth Games with a range of balls for six of its sports competitions - basketball, soccer, handball, netball, volleyball and water polo.

Molten is also to provide digital scoreboards as well as digital basketball shot clocks for the finals at Crystal Palace.

"Around 47,000 youngsters across London will set out on the journey to represent their borough at the 2010 Balfour Beatty London Youth Games," said Russell Findlay, chief executive, London Youth Games. "For thousands of children across the city, the Games will provide the first opportunity to compete in a large-scale sporting event, following in the footsteps of stars such as Rio Ferdinand and Luol Deng.

"It is therefore crucial that we provide a really positive early experience of sport. By teaming up with a company of the international standing of Molten we are able to ensure we offer well-organised and professional competitions delivered with equipment of the highest quality."

Bob Hope, chairman of Molten's UK and Ireland distributor, added: "We are delighted to have been appointed the official ball supplier to the London Youth Games for the next four years. Thousands of youngsters aged 7-18 and living or attending school in London are planning to enter and in the lead up to the London Olympics in 2012, it is most important that our young athletes have the very best sports equipment available with which to compete. All Molten balls are world class and the majority of our top of the range balls are approved by international federations including FIBA, FIFA, FIVB and IHF."
