American billionaire Stan Kroenke has spent US$1.1 million to secure 80 more shares in English soccer club Arsenal, taking him closer to passing the 29.9 per cent mark that would oblige him to make an offer for the club.
Kroenke has been steadily adding to his stake since May, when he spent US$61.04 million to take his shareholding in the club to 28.3 per cent, becoming the club's biggest shareholder for the first time.

Sources at the club continue to insist the American has no interest in mounting an outright takeover bid.
