Broadcasters RTÉ and Sky secured a last-minute deal to screen the Republic of Ireland's Fifa World Cup play-off second leg against France.
Just one day before the match no agreement had been reached, but late negotiations ensured the match, one of the biggest in the recent history of Irish soccer, would be broadcast in the country on both RTÉ and Sky Sports, and broadcast on RTÉ radio
"Following extensive negotiations between RTÉ and the French Football Federation, I’m delighted to announce that a deal has been agreed which will give the Irish public the opportunity to enjoy this crucial game live," said Glen Killane, head of sport at RTÉ.
The asking price for the rights was US$2.25 million, but the deal is thought to have been done for a fee in the region of US$1.5 million.
