Indian government pours more money into Commonwealth Games

The Indian government has pledged another US$104.7 million as the race to complete the infrastructure for the 2010 Commonwealth Games before they are due to be held next October continues to present problems in New Delhi.
The amount, paid to the Delhi Development Authority, is just the latest in a series of government investments. In June, the local government in Delhi stepped in with an extra US$185 million contribution to the infrastructure for the competition before, in July, the national government upped its own contribution by approximately US$280 million.

The 2010 competition will be the first time the Commonwealth Games have ever been held in India. The Games, held every four years, feature the best athletes from the states which make up the Commonwealth of Nations, including Canada, Australia and South Africa as well as England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
