Madrid's bid to host the Olympic Games in 2016 has won support from a 68th corporate sponsor - airline Iberia.

The city is competing against Tokyo, Chicago and Rio de Janeiro for the right to host the competition. The decision will be made by the International Olympic Committee in October.

Iberia will promote Madrid's bid to four million Iberia Plus members, 335,000 people who visit the airline's website each day, and over 22,000 employees who represent the company throughout the world.

An Iberia plane bearing the Madrid 2016 official logo will transport the official delegation to Copenhagen. The financial support and exposure is thought to be worth as much as US$500,000 to the bid.

"Iberia is an ambassador for Spain throughout the world and we are delighted to have them as our sponsor," said Madrid 2016 bid-leader Mercedes Coghen. "Our list of corporate partnerships is outstanding and very impressive. Their support underlines the extensive support we have from all corners of Spanish society for our bid. It shows how much everyone in Spain wants to host the best Games ever."

An Iberia spokesperson added: "Iberia will use all means possible to promote the Madrid 2016 bid, through the airports where we operate, and among the over two million people who fly with us every month."
